Meeting 31st October 2011
MEETING 31.10.11
Present: Myles Meissenheimer, Matt Walrond, Grace Mooney, Matt Green, Benn Nardonne, Charlie Canty, Toby Martin, Bev Young and Jane Gray.
1. Fundraising - there are two possible funds to apply to, the Town Council’s New Homes Bonus and the High Sherriff’s Award. It was decided to prioritise money for the second half of the Evercrete sealant cost, we are waiting to hear if we have been successful with the Carnival Fund. Once this has been raised, the second priority will be paying for professional web-site support. This will become more and more necessary as we plan for the Jubilee and the Olympics and our performance art.
It will also help answer lots of questions currently asked by potential visitors by phone to the Secretary.
The very successful Halloween Skate Jam raised £38.05 – thanks to Alex Diss for organising this.
Bev has been into Fat Face and is investigating sponsorship from them.
2. The Community/Youth Hub - our plans went public in the S/W Weekly News last week and made the front page. This will be followed up by a leaflet and lots of good PR, directed by Linda, one of the scooter mums, who is giving us the benefit of her expertise, we are very grateful for this professional help.
Dan Peppiart has been working hard to get the “Giant’s Visit”, part of the Cultural Olympics programme, to come via the skatepark, where there will be amazing music (provided by Evi Vine and keen singers) and pyrotechnics and skating/biking spectacular ! We are planning lots of hugely exciting projects happening at the skatepark next summer.
Dan and Jonny are organising meetings to plan the Hub and the events separately from the usual skatepark meetings and if you are interested and want to contribute, the next meeting is in the Leisure Centre café at 7pm this Thursday 3rd November.
We are looking at a possible floor plan and ideas for the building at this meeting.
There is also a forum to access, learn more at the meeting or e-mail Jane janempc@btinternet.com
3. Sainsburys - a group of BMXers attended the planning meeting at UDC offices to hear and support the Sainsbury’s planning application. It was turned down again but will now go to Appeal and be decided by a Planning Inspector in February next year. The petrol station part was approved but will not be built until the rest of the store is approved.
4. Scooters - there has been a marked improvement in the way the scooters are using the park. The 6.30pm ban on weekdays will stay in force for another month and will be reviewed again then. One of the parents has suggested a booklet explaining how to scooter safely in the main park safely. Grace and Matt to put together a poster/leaflet, possibly in a cartoon style format.
There is a scooter jam planned on Sunday 27th November from 9am until noon.
Luke Luckins has designed a new scooter facility for the proposed skatepark extension and this has been sent to the American company, who we hope will build the new part of the skatepark.
5. Maintenance - the fence bolts and repairs to the shelter front are being addressed this week. 3 bins for cigarette ends (£45) have been purchased and will be installed when they arrive.
6. Help a blader - there are posters up at the skatepark of a young blader who has been accused of being involved in the riots when he was at the skatepark on that evening. If you have any photos/film of him back-flipping out of the bowl on August 8th evening, see Jane.
7. Filming - Bev to contact the film company, who want to organise a film with the skaters to celebrate the Cultural Olympics and make a town trail.
NEXT MEETING FOR THE SKATE GROUP IS ON MONDAY 14th NOVEMBER AT THE SKATEPARK AT 7PM.
DAN’S MEETING ABOUT THE HUB AND CULTURAL OLYMPICS THIS THURSDAY 3RD NOVEMBER AT THE LESIURE CENTRE AT 7PM.
GET INVOLVED IN YOUR SKATEPARK AND THE EXCITING PROJECTS THAT ARE PLANNED !
