MINUTES 28.11.11
Present: Bradley Howe, James Bradford, Luke Luckings, Bev Young, Che Richards, Jamie Searle, Charlie Canty and Jane Gray.
1. Funding - the High Sheriff’s Award application for funds fund has gone in. The Scooter Jam raised £10.80 and despite cold weather was enjoyed by those who attended, the bacon butties cooked by Pete were delicious, our thanks to Burtons for supplying the bacon. Bev has received a donation from the Idaho Club from Newport, who saw the article about our future plans in the local paper. They were determined to give the money raised at their dance to our Group as they felt there was so much unjustified bad press given to young people. We are hugely grateful for their £300 donation.
2. Late night shopping - four adults will be serving the mulled wine and we will sell pre-loved hoodies and new helmets. Younger helpers to shake buckets and collect money are needed.
3. Web-site - Rosemarie, our web-designer, will put the vote for the strap-line on the site. We are in need of a logo, if you think you can produce us one, contact Jane for the “logo brief”. Matt and Grace are working on this too. Bradley suggested a link to the forum, where Dan and Jonny are working on SKOPERA, Jane to do.
4. Urban Games etc: - Jane attended a meeting organised by the Town and District Council to co-ordinate events next summer. The Group have been asked to put on a Skate Jam on the day of the Torch Relay, 19th May, and another one on 7th July, which will be a charity sports fun day in the town. The Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated with the whole town coming together and the Skate Group will be part of this. The Urban Games are scheduled for September and Jane has asked for stewards and help from the Councils.
5. The Hub - Jane went to a hugely useful meeting with Mark Wilson from UDC. He is a “green building expert” and has drawn up a list of green ideas for the proposed Hub, including solar panels, a wind turbine, re-cycling the water, heat pumps etc:.
This will make our building sustainable as the running costs can be cut to a bare minimum (see the web-site for more details on this meeting). Mark has also given us a contact, who may be helpful.
6. Film - Bev will set a date, probably a Wednesday evening, for the film makers, who want to make a film involving the Group, so they can meet those who want to be part of this exciting project.
7. Lease - no further news.
8. Maintenance day - all hands to the park on Wednesday 30th November to do maintenance, Bradley posted it on Facebook. Meet at the park at 1pm.
The shelter has been mended and is warmer now !
