A lift for the Hub

THE QUESTION OF A LIFT IN THE HUB WAS DISCUSSED AT A RECENT MEETING

This is the reply from the Project Officer at Uttlesford District Council

As discussed on the telephone, as this new build would be a community use building, we would require in your Design and Access Statement some details regarding the provision of a lift.  Both Part M of the Building Regulations and BS8300:2010 sets out the requirements regarding provision and any architect or builder should be aware of this..  The provision of such a facility not only ensures that you capture an ageing population with mobility problems to use the facility and the demographic shift endorses this, but also families with prams and of course the movement of stock and furniture for any upper rooms.

Minimum car dimensions are 1100mm wide by 1400mm deep.  It is likely that you will have to contact a supplier to get a quote over the web or the telephone and at least this will give you a guide to what the cost will be.

NOTE A preliminary phone call to one supplier gave a quote of £17,000 for a lift capable of transporting people and goods from the ground floor to the first floor.    More quotes are being sought.
