MEETING 12.12.11
Present: Grace Mooney, Bradley Howe, Charlie Canty, Matt Green, Benn Nardone, Matt Walrond, James and Jane Gray.
1. Funding - Bradley is e-mailing details of a fund, which could be used. We have been awarded £480 to cover the costs of a new shelter front, a new sign and an evening of bowling with Turpins. Anyone who wants to try bowling please give your name to Jane and she will organise a date in the new year.
We also have been awarded £2,000 from the New Homes Bonus and this will cover the last money needed for the Evercrete concrete sealant and for our web support.
We can now order the Evercrete, this price has been increasing because of the dollar/pound exchange.
2. Web-site - this has proved very popular all over the country. We need posters advertising it at the skatepark, Grace offered to do these once her term finishes.
3. Summer events - there is a great deal going on next year. Jane to attend a meeting in January to discuss the Urban Games, which will probably take place in September at the park. There is a grant attached to this so we can afford to put on a really great day. The Group have received a cheque to cover the costs of putting on SKOPERA, the music and skating extravaganza planned for 19th May in conjunction with the Giant’s visit to the town, all part of the Cultural Olympics.
Bev is still trying to sort a date for the film-makers from Suffolk, who want to make a film using mobile phones around the town. As soon as we get a date, we will let everyone know.
4. The HUB - it was decided to have a meeting to discuss the Hub’s design, room size and green, environmental issues on Sunday at 4pm at the Leisure Centre café so we can spread out on a table. James is researching SUDS (sustainable drainage ditches) and reed bed toilets.
The plea in the local papers for “Skate Mates” (adults/parents who feel they can offer some artistic or professional help with the Hub) has resulted in a handful of people who will meet with us in the new year. Several new names were put forward, Bradley to ask a teacher at SWCHS and Jane to approach a parent skater.
Jane and Martin Ellis have been costing out a shopping list of plant and materials for Evergreen skatepark builders, who consist of ex-Dreamland skatepark builders, so that they can give us an idea of how much the skatepark extension will cost.
The question was asked about when the Hub and extension will be built. This is dependent on planning permission being given for the housing but we will know more after the 6 week public consultation being organised by UDC which starts at the end of January. We should know more by early summer.
5. Lease - the Group are keen to explore the possibility of taking on the lease. Jane to find a solicitor who can advise us on the legal implications.
6. Pupil bulletin at SWCHS - Bradley suggested we put the skatepark news on the County High Pupil Bulletin. Jane to enquire how to do this.
