Skate Park Hub: Meeting 18 Dec. 2011

author: admin date: January 2, 2012

This was a meeting with a small group to try and get more of an idea about what was important to have in the Skate Park Hub and what it might look like inside.

Everyone thought it should be sustainable and take full advantage of the latest green technology so that running costs could be kept low.   It needs to be well lit and retain heat, think long-term.   Flexible space so that we can open up a large space for gigs or close down to smaller spaces for youth counselling for example.

James had researched reed bed toilets and came up with a leaflet on hand washing basins on top of the toilet cistern so that the water fills the hand basins for hand-washing and then pull the plug and that fills the cistern underneath to flush the toilet for the next person.

As you walk in the door all your immediate needs should be met immediately.

In the reception area there should be vending machines, toilets, notice boards or digital display boards, information, flyers for gigs etc:, examples of art work,  indication of the spaces available for sessions, hire etc:

All this space needs to be light and welcoming.

A small room at the back for receptionist with buzzer/bell to alert.

Music room/band rehearsal room at the back of the building to avoid disturbance.

Disabled access and toilets need to be considered.   Also if we are having 2 floors then a lift or ramp.  Jane to seek guidance from Uttlesford on this.

Space for kids parties, even skate tutorials linked with parties, skate cake ?!

Possible mini-ramp in the shop ?

A café at the top so parents can keep an eye on kids/admire the skating and view.
Lift may well be important to get stores up to café.

Possible black-boarded wall so that messages can be written, job adverts, help sought etc:   people wanting advice on careers from adults visiting, people who can film, make, repair, get hold of something, sales, and other info.   Telephone numbers can be left with reception for protection purposes and we can set up a system of contact through reception.

Hire of rooms for yoga, karate, reflexology, meditation etc:

Can we do some free sessions for those that help in the Hub but are short of cash ?   possibly some sort of token system ?

We now have 2 different plans of how the Hub might be structured inside.

Anyone who wants to be included in this group, contact Jane.   Come to the next meeting and get your ideas across. Details of next meeting to follow, watch this space.
