1.   SKOPERA – 6 skaters or BMXers or bladers needed for our skate opera.   To be available for the afternoon and early evening of Saturday 19th May.   You will get the opportunity to skate down the High Street with the Giant’s procession and then to form part of the performance in the evening.   We just need you to skate, blade or BMX as the back drop for the dancers.    See Jane or Bradley if you can take part in this.
PLEASE NOTE – the skatepark will be closed from 4pm for rehearsal and performance to everybody, except those taking part.   It will re-open at 8pm.

2.   Bowling with Turpins – Gill, one of the Skate Mates is organising this, it will take place in September.   We have started to putting together a list of those interested in taking part.

3.   Hub – the architect is coming back with your revised ideas on 22nd May at 11am. Bring any pictures/ideas to this meeting.

4.   Planning meeting at UDC – the number of houses will decided at two meetings at Uttlesford District Council offices on Tuesday and Thursday.   Robin, Cam and Toby volunteered to attend.

5.   Adverse letters in press – Robin, Bradley, Toby and Terry have written a letter to counter the continuing correspondence about the skatepark in one local paper.

Anyone interested in dance or performance or rap is welcome to attend, wear loose clothing and bring water or a soft drink.

It’s going to be a lot of fun – come and join us !

The final performance on the skatepark will be filmed and shown at the huge Cultural Olympic Festival in Highlands Park in Chelmsford later in the year.

Plans are well under way for the skating, musical extravaganza, SKOPERA being held next month at the skate park.  Organisers, including Grace Mooney and Matt Walrond (pictured) spent a chilly afternoon at the skatepark designing and making costumes for the fire and water tribes, Aquas and Fuegos.

The Skate Group are also looking for a volunteer events manager as they have more exciting events planned this summer.  For further information please contact Jane.

1.   Funding -  we have funding for a BBQ !    The £90 will cover a metal half-barrel BBQ, which we can use for the Big Lunch and the Torch Run Skate Jam.    We will have to take advice from the Fire Service on safe practice when using it.   Jamie Simmons expressed an interest in cooking on it.   We must purchase a fire extinguisher as well.

2.   Web-site  -   we discussed the possibility of having a time lapse camera on the park connected to the web-site.  We had considered a web-cam some while back but the costs of maintaining it were considerable and on-going.

3.   Summer events  -  plans for SKOPERA are progressing and Bradley has a meeting to discuss the route for the “Giant’s” out-riders tomorrow.   They will go from the UDC offices down the High Street to the Museum.    Posters asking for performers have been distributed and a costume and make-up meeting will take place on Saturday 14th April at 3pm at the skatepark, see Grace, who is organising this or just turn up with an old white T-shirt.   We also need a poster designed, contact Jane.

4.   Bowling with Turpins  -  we added some more names to the list for the chance to have a go at bowling at Turpins.   This may have to take place in the autumn now.
We are looking for someone to organise this – there is a lot of enthusiasm but we are lacking someone to liaise between Turpins and the skaters, see Jane if you could do this.

5.   Architect  -  we had a very constructive meeting with Jeremy Ashcroft, the potential architect, Ian Mitchell from Kier and some skaters and Skate Mates.
Jeremy gave us a presentation showing buildings that were exciting and very innovative.   He is passionate about making the Hub sustainable, using very little power keep it warm or cool, his ideas can be incorporated as an integral part of the building.   We need to think about what sort of building we want and share our ideas with Jeremy.   Have you got any ideas how we might do this, meetings or the web-site etc: ?

6.   SWOT  -   as part of Jane’s homework from a course on setting up a Social Enterprise, Jim and Jane looked at the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for the Skate Group and the extension and Hub.   A Social Enterprise is a business that puts any profit back into the business, so the profit from the Hub’s café and shop would be put back into running the whole of the Hub and the site.   Anyone interested in helping with this side of things, see Jane.
