USEFUL THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU VISIT THE SKATEPARK
The One Minet Skatepark consists of three challenging deep bowls and a street section. Alongside is a rail area and a mini-park for the younger members and beginners. There are ample benches, a shade shelter for hot summer days and a partly enclosed shelter for colder days.
THE SKATEPARK IS RUN AND MANAGED BY THE SAFFRON WALDEN SKATE GROUP SO ANY DAMAGE CAUSED HAS TO BE PAID FOR OUT OF THE GROUP’S FUNDS.
There are no proper toilets. There is a drain behind the breeze-block maintenance shed, which is used instead. The nearby Lord Butler Leisure Centre does have toilets but they are not open after 6pm on Saturdays and they do not always appreciate a long queue of skaters waiting to use their facilities.
There are no facilities providing food at the park. There is a Tescos on the Little Walden Road (down the Thaxted Road to the lights, turn right, thru the next lights and it is on your right) and a Waitrose in the middle of town (park in Fairycroft Rd car park or on the Common). The Jet garage has a small range of snacks (down the Thaxted Rd on the right) and the Lord Butler Leisure Centre (at the other end of the carpark) has a small café with vending machines, coffee and snacks.
- Please take care if you bring a BBQ.
- There are lots of benches, a shade shelter in the summer and a big field for picnicking. The Lord Butler Leisure Centre has a swimming pool for non-skaters, check opening times though.
- Parking is limited at times, we share the space with Turpins and the Leisure Centre, please be thoughtful.
- We don’t tolerate graffiti – our annual coat of concrete sealant won’t work through paint. We want to keep the park in the best possible condition.
- Litter goes in the bins
The local skaters, BMXers, bladers and scooter-riders are friendly !
